How to be a Life Artist

Updated: 8 hours ago

Have you ever encountered an individual who inspired you so much because of their character and how they handle life's challenges? Such a person is most likely described as a life artist. According to Cambridge dictionary, there is one definition that describes it as "bringing pleasure to others through your art.". However, the definition of a life artist itself is not set in stone. I’d like to share with you my understanding of being a life artist: it can be perceived as handling life in a way where you are able to master anything that comes your way, while at the same time not letting the stumbling stones of life block you. How does that look like exactly?

Compassion & Empathy as a Requirement

Anyone who strives to be a life artist definitely needs to have compassion and empathy. Having compassion and empathy enriches your life because it has a positive effect on the well-beings of others around you and oftentimes lightens the atmosphere to the point that conflicts are prevented. A mutual dialogue based on respect and a willingness to understand the other, to "put yourself in someone else's shoes" makes your interactions smoother. Resolving conflicts in a creative way represents probably one of the major challenges as a life artist.

Artistic Expressions

Depending on how you perceive life, everything you do can be seen as art since every action you do carries an expression of yourself, just as Helena Bonham Carter put it in her quote. Someone who creates art with paint, for example, is expressing themselves and is bringing across a certain message with their artwork. The way you decorate your home or the way you listen and jam to music in your car are two other examples. You might prefer a certain flair or atmosphere, in order to feel comfortable. The same goes for the way you solve problems. You solve them in a matter that matches your comfort zone and who you are. You don't need to be an artistic person but at least resourceful with your time, energy and connections as well as know how to develop your own strategies.

Overcoming Hurdles

You need to have an open mindset when encountering any kind of hurdle in your life. Each hurdle represents a stumbling stone that needs to be overcome. The best way is to have ideas/options on how to go about things and then also be able to implement them without putting too much pressure on yourself or depending too much on others. Whatever kind of hurdle you are facing right now in your life, it should not stop you from getting where you need and want to be in life. Therefore, I'd like to ask the questions: What's your definition of a life artist and how do you express yourself as a life artist? How do you make your lemonade when lemons are thrown at you?
